Stan Avery's story reads so much like the traditional Horatio Alger tale that some will tend automatically to idolize him as a model of free enterprise accomplishment. Others may feel impelled to decry him or any other captain of industry. Thus, a reporter for the student newspaper at Caltech recently began an interview with Stan Avery with the assumption that as a businessman, Stan would be completely ignorant of ethical questions.
