27 June 2009, Kunshan, China – Avery Dennison China (ADC) today celebrated its 15th anniversary with a party in Kunshan, Jiangsu. More than 180 honored guests, including staff and their families, explored the company’s history at a photo exhibition, experienced its present-day success with a tour of the Kunshan facilities, and looked ahead to a future of ongoing development as Avery Dennison continues to invest in its people and facilities in China. As an important part of the anniversary celebration, Avery Dennison acknowledged the contribution of the 81 staff who have worked at Avery Dennison China for ten years or more. Of these, nine have been with the company since its founding in 1994, including Mr. Dagang Li, vice president and general manager of ADC. "Today marks my 15th year of working with ADC. I'm very proud to be here and to see so many smiling faces. We have achieved a great deal in our first 15 years and I thank you all for your hard work. Let's keep moving forward together!" he said. ADC's years in China have been characterized by growth in all areas. It now has two factories and five distribution centers and a strong network of branches and offices nationwide. It has trained more than 700 label converters and end users from across the Asia Pacific at its Avery Dennison Self-Adhesive Label Converting College, opened in 2000, and established a number of philanthropic initiatives to promote technology advancement and academic excellence in China. These include the InvEnt "Spirit of Invention" Scholarship Program, R&D Technical Internship Programs for university graduates, and a sponsorship to the Fudan University to promote RFID technology in China. In 2006, Avery Dennison opened its first Research Center outside of the United States, the Neal Research Center in Kunshan. For staff in China, Avery Dennison has an advanced Leadership Development Program that nurtures talented local professionals as next-generation leaders. The company also pioneered China’s first corporate provident fund. Today Avery Dennison is recognized as an inspiring and supportive employer and the driving force behind the nation's growing label industry. Speaking after a family tour organized as part of the anniversary celebrations, Mr. Andy Liu, Sales Manager, Jiangsu, said: "Having visited the plant, my wife now feels much closer to ADC and much prouder of me". Staff and families visited the Kunshan pressure-sensitive materials manufacturing plant and finishing plant, the distribution center and the local office, along with the Converting College and Neal Research Center. Family members were delighted to see where their loved ones work, with the children adoring the games Human Resources staff had laid on for them. Another highlight of the event was the announcement of the winners of a staff essay-writing competition that attracted more than 40 entries from as far afield as Hong Kong and Tianjin. Given the universally high standard of the entries, which covered topics spanning operations and management, all will be posted around ADC's China network.
