Mumbai, August 21, 2009 – The Avery Dennison Foundation celebrated the first anniversary of its sponsorships of a faculty chair position in association with the SIES School of Packaging in Mumbai this week. The sponsorships, totaling US$50,000 to date, have created 121 new enrollment opportunities this year for students who are interested in joining the packaging industry. “In the world of packaging, innovations are key to a product’s life cycle, enhanced shelf-appeal and sales. There is tremendous opportunity for talent in the industry, and our sponsorship provides exciting new opportunities for Indian packagers as well as increased focus on specialized training,” said Raj Srinivasan, Managing Director, Materials India, Avery Dennison (India) Pvt. Ltd. “In nurturing and fostering local talent in the packaging industry, this sponsorship creates opportunities to groom the future leaders who will ensure India’s continued economic and technological success,” Srinivasan said. “We are pleased that our Foundation’s scholarship program underscores our Company’s commitment to India’s future.” Launched last year, the sponsorship provides grants for the school to provide education and training in self-adhesive technology for the Graduate Technology Course in Packaging & Packaging Management Programme and the Post Graduate Diploma in Packaging Science & PostGraduate Technology. These programmes now include modules on self-adhesive technology, including education on raw materials, conversion process, printing, production process, quality assessment, label applications, development and environmental concerns. During the first year of the Avery Dennison Foundation sponsorship in the 2008-2009 academic year, over 140 students were benefited from this programme. During the second year beginning in August 2009, over 120 new packaging students will be joining the program. “The programme is an excellent blend of academics and career development besides meeting a void felt by the industry,” said Prof P.V. Narayanan of the SIES School of Packaging. “The Avery Dennison Grant Award to the SIES School of Packaging, initiated in the year 2008, is intended to impart quality education in self-adhesive technology,” he continued. “The course was tailor-made to build into the curriculum of the three programmes offered by the SIES School of Packaging and SIES Graduate School of Technology: a 2-year post-graduate course, a one-year part -time graduate course, and a four-year degree course in packaging and printing technology. It has evoked considerable interest and has opened a new area of specialization. The response from students has been overwhelming, marking a very useful and beneficial collaborative effort between the two institutions which will only gather further momentum.” “After more than a decade in India, we continue to see tremendous growth of this important market, with expanding applications in every conceivable product and packaging, and we will continue our efforts to develop and groom local talents for the India’s labeling industry”, Raj Srinivasan added. # # # About the Avery Dennison Foundation About Avery Dennison SIES School of Packaging: |
