SHANGHAI, June 16, 2010 - For the third consecutive year, Avery Dennison has been named "The Best RFID Labels and Tags Enterprise." Presented at the 5th Annual China International RFID & Smart Card Technology and Applications Forum in Beijing, the coveted award recognizes the company's significant contribution to the growth, development and promotion of radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions in China and Asia during 2009.
Avery Dennison was founded in June 1935 by R. Stanton Avery, who developed
the world's first self-adhesive label and label-making machinery in a loft above
a flower shop in downtown Los Angeles. Sales for his first six months of selling
removable price stickers to gift shops and other retailers totaled $1,391.
Organized by the Asia Pacific RFID Technology Association and RFID
Application and Technology Magazine, and based on written submissions and a
demanding interview process, the award honors Avery Dennison's outstanding
achievements in RFID labels and tags technology and solutions development in
Asia and in China.
"With applications throughout the public and private sectors, RFID solutions
deliver solid and proven value to enable organizations to be more productive,
efficient and cost effective, and thus to contribute more to the region's
continuing economic growth," said Jonson Yue, Director of RFID Business
Development, Avery Dennison, Asia. "As a leading solutions provider in this
field and a trusted partner of business in China, Avery Dennison is pleased to
be working with end-users, systems integrators, converters, and solution vendors
to promote RFID development and use."
Avery Dennison designs and manufactures RFID inlays, the tiny antenna and
microchip systems that are the critical link between a tagged item and its
back-end data collection system. While RFID solutions are already widely used
throughout China to reduce costs, increase productivity and improve processes,
new applications are constantly being developed and the sector has a promising
future. RFID provides solutions across multiple markets in China today,
including retail, logistics, healthcare and aviation.
RFID Solutions to Inspire Brands and Make the World More Intelligent
Avery Dennison's supply chain and manufacturing solutions optimize retail supply
chain efficiency by offering intelligent, creative and sustainable solutions
that elevate brands, improve service and accelerate performance. By implementing
item-level RFID tags, companies throughout the supply chain can improve the
accuracy of their processes, shorten cycle time, and enhance inventory
visibility. Avery Dennison is an innovative leader in many retail and
manufacturing sectors, including the apparel industry, for which it currently
supplies over 90% of the apparel RFID tickets worldwide.
Avery Dennison is also a key solutions provider to the aviation RFID sector,
having over 80% of the global airport and airline RFID baggage tagging market.
The company's RFID inlays meet International Air Transport Association (IATA)
standards and are already in use at Las Vegas McCarran Airport and Hong Kong
International Airport (HKIA), enhancing the reliability and efficiency of
baggage handling. Avery Dennison was also selected to partner Motorola and
Print-O-Tape in a multi-year contract to supply HKIA with up to 70 million new
RFID-enabled baggage tracking tags. The airport is using Avery Dennison's new
RFID inlays, which have been specifically designed around aviation needs and can
be read at long distances without line-of-sight in any orientation.
